The Need for a Comprehensive Program of Religious Education

There is a need to establish a comprehensive and multi-dimensional system of religious education and training so that every Muslim can become adequately familiar with the basic knowledge of Islam. However, basic knowledge does not merely refer to matters of faith, beliefs, and the essential rulings of prayer and fasting. Rather, it encompasses the understanding that Islam’s teachings are not limited to just beliefs and worship but also extend to ethics and worldly matters. This means that the widespread perception of a separation between religion and the worldly life needs to be eliminated and replaced with an understanding of the all-encompassing nature of Islam. Without this, neither can Muslims lead a truly Islamic life, nor can they remain safeguarded against the temptations and challenges of the modern age.

Today, the reason why many Muslims are rapidly falling prey to anti-religion or non-religious movements is that they perceive these movements as solely addressing worldly issues and believe that religion has no relevance to such matters. Consequently, their interest in religion is waning. Moreover, the current practical model of religion that is commonly observed further alienates the educated class of this era from Islam. They begin to see Islam as something irrelevant, unable to provide any perspective on the practical challenges of the time, let alone offer solutions to them.

Therefore, we need to devise a comprehensive program for this purpose.

دینی تعلیم وتربیت کا ایک ایسا وسیع اور ہمہ گیر نظام قائم کرنا چاہیے کہ ہر مسلمان دین کی ابتدائی معلومات سے ضروری طور سے واقف ہوسکے، لیکن ابتدائی معلومات سے مراد صرف ایمان وعقیدہ اور نماز روزہ کے ضروری مسائل ہی نہیں ہیں، بلکہ اس میں دین کا یہ علم بھی داخل ہے کہ اس کا تعلق صرف عقائد وعبادات ہی سے نہیں ہے بلکہ اخلاق اور دنیاوی معاملات سے بھی ہے۔ یعنی تفریق دین ودنیا کا جو تصور عام ہے، اس کو مٹاکر اس کی بہ جائے دین کی وسعت وہمہ گیری کا تصور عام کرنے کی ضرورت ہے، اس کے بغیر نہ صحیح معنوں میں ان کی زندگی اسلامی زندگی ہوسکتی ہے اور نہ وہ عہد حاضر کے فتنوں سے محفوظ رہ سکتے ہیں۔ آج جو مسلمان تیزی کے ساتھ لادینی تحریکات کا شکار ہوتے جارہے ہیں، اس کی اصل وجہ یہی ہے کہ ان کے نزدیک یہ تحریکات دنیاوی معاملات ومسائل کے حل سے تعلق رکھتی ہیں اور دین کو ان مسائل سے کوئی سروکار ہی نہیں ہے۔ اس لیے اس کے ساتھ ان کی دل چسپی ایسے ہی کم ہوتی جارہی ہے۔ پھر اس تصور کے مطابق ہمارا جو دینی عملی نمونہ ہر جگہ دیکھنے میں آرہا ہے وہ بہ جائے خود اس زمانے کے ذہین طبقہ کو دین سے بے رغبت کرنے والا ہے۔ وہ ایسے دین کو ایک لایعنی شے سمجھنے لگے ہیں جو زمانہ کی عملی دشواریوں میں کوئی نقطہ نظر ہی نہ رکھتا ہے چہ جائے کہ وہ ان کے حل میں کچھ معاون ثابت ہوسکے۔ اس غرض کے لیے ہمیں ایک وسیع پروگرام بنانے کی ضرورت ہے۔
