Research and its role in Islamic Education

Research carries a very high importance for Muslims, especially in coming age, where deception is prevalent and misguidance is abundant.
This relationship between Islam and research is not new. Allah SWT has invited mankind to ponder and reflect on very natural phenomenon a number of times in the glorious Quran. Responding to this call, the salaf, our prious predecessors, took research very seriously and drafted the golden age of Islam. This era was a pinnacle of scientific research as well as the time when most of the classical relgious texts were written.

Muslim have to go back to research if they have to re-gain their lost glory.

Orientalists from around the world have very keenly learnt Arabic language and deeply studied our texts. From thier this research, they have picked certain aspects using which they try to misguide our masses. When we critically analyze their criticisms and deception, one can clearly see a bias and deviation from authentic research objective. There favourite line of action is cherry-picking (picking some aspects and neglecting others). Similarly, we see use of information from un-authentic sources as long as they support their opinions. All this is deviation from ethical research methods.

Allah SWT has blessed us with many authentic scholars who have clearly exposed these deceptions to public. But the irony is that number of deceivers and those who believe them are growing at a very rapid pace having media outlets and resources at their disposal.

​To counter that, Muslims will have to develop a comprehensive skill-set and expertise spread over a number of fields. Research methods is clearly a prominent one among those.

In this article, we have tried to provide some useful books that can be of assistance to those who decide to embark upon a journey on this route for thier ummah and their future.
