Syed Ali Hajveri:
Sheikh Syed Ali Hujwiri was born in Ghazni, in present-day Afghanistan, in around 1009 AD to Uthman ibn Ali. He is a direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad through his father who was a direct descendant of Prophet's grandson, Hasan ibn Ali R.A. His genealogical chain goes back eight generations to Ali. According to the autobiographical information recorded in his own Kashf al-maḥjūb, it is evident that Sheikh Ali Hujwiri travelled widely through the Ghaznavid Empire and beyond - 40 different centres of learning according to scholars; he spent a considerable time in Baghdad, Nishapur, and Damascus, where he met many of the pre-eminent scholars of his time. In matters of jurisprudence, he received training in the Hanafi rite of orthodox Sunni law under various teachers.[19] As for his spiritual training, he was linked through his teacher al-Khuttalī to al-Husrī, Abu Bakr Shibli (d. 946), and Junayd of Baghdad (d. 910). For a short period of time, the Sheikh is also believed to have lived in Iraq. Eventually, Ali Hujwiri R.A. settled in Lahore, where he died with the reputation of a renowned preacher and teacher. |
Kashaf ul Mahjoob (Revelation of the Veiled):
Kashaf-ul-Mahjub is one of the most ancient and revered Persian treatise on Islamic spirituality which outlines its doctrines and practices. In this book, the Sheikh discusses how the system of Islamic spirituality, called as sufism by some its adherent, is aligned with the shariah rather than opposing it. Those who go against the Shariah in their so-called practices of spirituality, such as dancing as the sheikh mentions, they are deviating away from the path. The sheikh has explained 11 Veils in his book. When these veils are lifted, one is able to achieve spiritual elevation. He explains each of these 11 veils in details that are generally not available to common people. Starting with the knowledge of divine attributes, the sheikh also explains the inner dimensions of Unity of God, Faith, Purification of Soul and Body from Foulness, Prayers, Alms, Fasting, Pilgrimage, Companionship, and so on. Apart from being religious spiritualism in genre, the book touches other important areas too, such as intelligence, love and humanity to all. It's highly engrossing way of conveying the sacred secrets sticks fast it's readers until they reach the 11th or the last Veil. |
