Shah Waliullah R.A. has divided the books of hadith in six categories. His top category, which he used to represent the most authentic books, contains Muwatta Imam Malik, Saheeh Bukhari and Saheeh Muslim.
His second category, which also represents highly esteemed and well-reputed books, includes Sunan Nasi'i, Sunan Abi Dawud, Jami Tirmidhi and Musnad Imam Ahmed. Many scholars consider Sunan Ibn Majah to be of this rank.
His third category included those books which contain a mix of authentic and inauthentic narrations. In this section of our library, we have compiled the books represented in first and second tier only.
It is to be noted that though these books are highly authentic, scholars have identified some weak narrations in them. It is accordingly advised to refer to authentication studies while studying these books and seek guidance from a learned scholar.
